Abstract:
The article examines the problems and contradictions of implementing gender-balanced policy in the sphere of engineering education and engineering activities. Gender aspects of reproduction of the engineering staff is that women traditionally are pushed from the highly skilled and highly professional activities. There are strong internal and external barriers to career advancement of women in engineering studies. The authors analyze the motives of choice of the engineering profession girls high school, career plans of students enrolled in engineering faculties of the university, including graduate and postgraduate technical professions. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of opinions and assessments of practicing women engineers on opportunities and challenges of women in professional fulfillment of modern industry. Research findings were based on data from formal interviews with applicants, students and graduate students of technical universities industrial training areas in the region, as well as materials used by expert survey engineers from the three largest industrial enterprises in the Urals region.
