Abstract:
The process of isolation of zirconium dioxide from dissociated zircon (a mixture of associated ZrO(2) and SiO(2)) via treatment by an aqueous solution of ammonium fluoride is investigated. Based on laboratory investigations, the solubility of ZrO(2) and the efficiency of washing SiO(2) out of it in an aqueous solution of ammonium fluoride are determined depending on its concentration, the excess content of the F(-) ion, and treatment temperature. The optimal conditions of isolation of technical zirconium dioxide of commercial quality are determined.
