Abstract:

The article presents the results of a sociological study, analysing the behavior types of families with children with severe physical impairements and who are in need of constant medical care. The study was divided into several stages, we used qualitative and quantitative methods, namely a questionnaire survey of parents of children with severe impairments who are patients of children's medical rehabilitation center (N = 312, November 2013 - January 2014.). We also conducted several semi-structured interviews with the center's doctors (8 informants, May 2015). We applied a secondary analysis of the results of sociological research. The analysis of the families' behaviors was carried out in accordance with their value orientations and aspirations to restore and maintain the health of the child, as well as to overcome the social barriers that make it difficult to obtain medical care. The analysis results of the study revealed three types of health care behaviors in the families with impaired children. These behaviors allow to actualize existing family resources to strengthen the health of the child in the process of interaction with health agencies, social agencies and public associations.
