Abstract:

The focus of the article is the analysis of social problems of people with mental illnesses. Assisting these people is the main subject of modern social work. With the advent of public life's democratization in Russia a new integrative approach towards people with mental illnesses was adopted. It involves not only the treatment of mentally ill people but the solution of their socialization problems which arise due to the illness itself, as well as stereotypes and attitudes towards it. The most typical problems in the sphere under analysis are social exclusion, the improvement of personal and social adaptation of resources, the creation of conditions for self-realization, the development of patient-friendly environment, eliminating bathers to social integration of patients. The need to implement a new integrated approach to people with mental illnesses intensified the research, related to the justification of the social work model. The aim of our research is the study of psychiatry problems, hampering social functioning of such patients, as well as the perceptions of professionals, working in psychiatric clinics, the organization and methods of social work with this group of patients.
