Abstract:
Gender asymmetry of professional roles begins with the youth preferences in the labor sphere, with the selection of the school profile, and then the choice of vocational education. Questions about orientation of young people in the engineering profession are still in the focus of researchers, employers, governments. The authors studied the gender features of interest of senior pupils and students to future engineering profession. For their findings, they used the survey data of STEM-specialties applicants, secondary data analysis of the sociological mentioning's materials of student youth of the Ural region. To study the gender features of interest in the future engineering profession was conducted an expert survey of undergraduate girls who choose the training on complex and time-consuming engineering programs of the STEM-direction Magistracy. The analysis of the survey data of applicants, students and undergraduates studying at engineering departments, enables us to conclude that, while maintaining the gender professional stereotypes there is an active process of their transformation, which is especially noticeable among young women - future engineers, mastering professions which are not typical for their gender..
