Abstract:
Published data on aggregation kinetics of potassium chloride crystals at its spontaneous crystallization from supersaturated aqueous and aqueous-ethanol solutions were analysed. It was found that the crystals coalesced through contact nucleus-bridges according to the mechanism proposed by Polak. The kinetics of aggregation were described by the Smoluchowski equation for coagulation of colloidal particles. The kinetic coefficient of aggregation process depended on supersaturation, temperature of solution and other characteristics of system. The specific surface energy of potassium chloride 0.98 mJ/m(2) 2 was found. (C) 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH \& Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
