Abstract:
The results of semi-industrial tests of two scale prevention methods for desalting water of the Caspian Sea are given. In the first method the complex aminophosphonate was introduced into the feed water. In the second method (a combined one), hydrochloric acid was added to the seawater intake along with aminophosphonate for partial destruction of bicarbonate and carbonate ions. The combined method turned out to be less efficient since iron oxides were found to deposit on the evaporator heat exchange surfaces. Besides, the staff found it difficult to maintain the operating conditions of acidification. The composition of scale formed when using various scale prevention methods was noted.
