Abstract:
Electromagnetic, hydrodynamic and temperature fields calculation for crystallization of the round billet diameter of 163 mm are performed. Basing upon these data, the crystallization rate was calculated and the areas of ingot were divided into small crystals, dendrites and globular crystals. For the calculations the authors used the finite difference method and the cylindrical symmetry of the investigation object. The possibility of the ingot macrostructure prediction at the crystallization process is based on interaction between the solidification rate and the grain size. As a result of the simulation, the authors obtained that the fine crystals and dendrites can be located near the outlet boundary while larger globular crystals are placed in the billet middle and in the central part.
