Abstract:
The negative trends in coke-oven masonry safety and service life are revealed with the increase of the oven capacity. The causes of heating pier masonry premature destruction in coke-oven batteries are studied. The static, dynamic, thermomechanic and chemical loads attacking the refractory masonry are analyzed and the destruction mechanism is proposed. The lateral loads of coking pressure cause the pier deflection. The heating walls of oven chamber are extending and compressing periodically. The extension takes place at the step of the charge lateral shrinkage, the compression - at the oven charging step. The appeared stresses cause the uncovering and gradual destruction of the joints; the cracks are propagated first over the joints and then in the unbroken bricks.
