Abstract:
Aimed to investigate relationship of structural changes on ageing to the tendency to delayed fracture in corrosion environment mechanical tests, fractographic examination and evaluation of crack propagation rate were accomplished with the use of maraging steel specimens. Resistance to delayed fracture was estimated in distilled water, aqueous solution of sodium chloride and in the air. Analysis of testing results depending on aging temperature showed that the highest tendency to delayed fracture in water exhibited steels aged at 400° C. At the stage of subcritical crack growth the difference in steels behaviour manifested itself in mechanisms of stress relaxation in a crack tip. Data on chemical composition, fracture mode and mechanical properties of the steels studied are presented.
