Abstract:
Critical loads are determined for cylindrical shells under torsion. It is assumed that the shell's thickness varies only along the generatrix, according to a power law. The problem is solved using the variational method, and asymptotic integration is used for obtaining the solutions to the fundamental equations. For long cylindrical shells, formulas are obtained for critical tangential flows in face cross sections.
