Abstract:
Complete polarization switching has been investigated in lead germanate (Pb//5Ge//3O//1//1) single crystals with an artificially reduced unipolarity as a result of maintenance of the single-domain state. It has been established that the characteristic features of the switching of the spontaneous polarization in lead germanate are due to the presence of an internal field. It has also been established that at room temperature the process of decay of this internal field includes the familiar stages characterized by times of the order of 10**2 and 10**4 sec, as well as a considerable contribution (about 25%) of 'fast' decay with characteristic times shorter than 1 sec.
