Abstract:
A study was made of the kinetics of formation and disappearance and also of the topography of a bound internal field in lead germanate single crystals. This internal field was created by the space charge localized at traps and formed as a result of screening of the spontaneous polarization. The trap activation energies of 0. 3 and 0. 9 ev were determined from the temperature dependence of the characteristic time of disappearance of the internal field, from the dynamics of the short-circuit current, and from the thermally stimulated depolarization currents. The measured results were analyzed on the basis of a model of bulk screening. A mechanism is proposed to explain the observed dependence of the strength of the bound internal field on the thickness of a sample.
