Abstract:
This letter reports experiments on the velocity of bulk waves in lead germanate with controlled changes in the domain structure. We have studied the propagation of longitudinal and shear waves along the Z axis (the C//3 crystallographic axis), i. e. , parallel to the domain walls; the propagation of a longitudinal wave along the Y axis; and the propagation of waves of an analogous type with the wave vector making a small angle with the Z and Y axes. The measurements were carried out in the frequency range 12 to 15 MHz at room temperature in two lead germanate samples.
