Abstract:
Nanocrystalline manganate LaMnO3 + δ was synthesized by pyrolysis from polymer-salt compounds. It was annealed in air at different temperatures up to Tan= 1100°C for 4 h. For the purpose of controlling oxygen contents, samples were kept at the temperature of 600°C for 20 h. The obtained samples were investigated by magnetic methods, X-ray and neutron diffraction, and by small-angle neutron scattering. The oxygen parameter δ is approximately 0.16 for the samples annealed at Tan ≥ 600°C, and δ < 0.1 for the others. The former have a rhombohedral structure (space group R3̄c) and the latter have an orthorhombic one (space group Pnma). From small-angle neutron scattering data, the particle size of the synthesized manganate is 24 nm. It increases with annealing and becomes more than 100 nm at Tan = 1100°C. All the investigated samples are ferromagnetic with the Curie point being 160-170 K. The synthesized manganate has surface fractal properties with fractal dimension Ds = 2.6-2.2.
