Abstract:
A comparative study of oxyhemoglobin solution affected by electrons and microwaves was made using Mossbauer spectroscopy. Oxyhemoglobin irradiation by electrons with energy of 10 MeV in doses of approx. 1.7, 2.5 and 5.0 kGy led to the rapid oxyhemoglobin deoxygenation with deoxyhemoglobin appearance in Mossbauer spectra as well as to formation of ferric and ferrous compounds as a result of protein destruction. Mossbauer spectra of oxyhemoglobin exposed to microwave heating (2.45 GHz, 900 W) during 5 and 15 s demonstrated an increase of oxyhemoglobin spectral line width and formation of ferric compound.
