Abstract:
The effect of hydrogen (0.25-0.32 wt %) on the structure and properties of cold-worked foils produced from the VT22I and Ti-10-2-3 alloys after deformation and aging at 350-550°C was studied by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and microhardness measurements. Alloying with hydrogen was shown to cause the formation of a (TiM)Hx-type fct hydride. The effects of alloying and conditions of hydride precipitation were studied in some detail. Enrichment of the β phase by vanadium and hydrogen during aging was established to facilitate hydride precipitation. Schemes of β-phase decomposition in the alloys studied at different aging temperatures are suggested.
