Abstract:
Phase equilibria and the properties of compounds existing in the LiCoVO4-Co2GeO4 system have been studied using X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Two fields for phases of variable composition (PVCs) Li1-xCo1+xV1-xGexO 4 have been found. Compounds crystallize in cubic space group Fd3m, Z=8. Unit cell parameters and boundary compositions for the PVCs have been determined. The occupancies of octahedral (16d) and tetrahedral positions for Li+, Co2+, V5+, and Ge4+ cations have been considered. The 16d positions are occupied by all of the cobalt, most of the lithium, and an insignificant part of vanadium and germanium. The IR and Raman spectra for LiCoVO4-based PVCs show a considerable distortion of the ideal spinel structure and are affected by the cation site occupation by heterovalent ions.
