Abstract:
Lithium cobaltites with defects in the oxygen and lithium sublattices were synthesized. Along with oxygen vacancies, defects of the Co′Co (Co2+) type exist in LiCoO2 - δ. Co2+ ions are in the high-spin state. A discrepancy was found between the magnetic moment values derived from magnetic susceptibility versus temperature curves and those from magnetization curves. The suggestion is made that this fact is related to the effect of the external field on the electronic structure. The lithium-deficient Lil - xCoO2 produced upon the chemical deintercalation of LiCoO2 is thermally unstable; when heated above 500 K, it decomposes to stoichiometric LiCoO2 and Co 3O4 with oxygen evolution.
