Abstract:
The authors report on results from an investigation of two variants for electric melting of 10-20Kh23N18 steel in 10 t arc furnaces using programmed thermal-time treatment (PTTT) (heating the bath to a certain temperature above liquidus for a given time to homogenize the atomic-electronic structure of the liquid metal and thereby improve the structure and properties in the solidified steel). The two PTTT variants are compared with results in conventional melting. An optimized temperature schedule is described which results in significant savings of low carbon (refined) ferrochromium.
