Abstract:
Small additions of oxygen, chromium, carbon and nitrogen to pure iron decrease its viscosity. The combined effect of these additives on the viscosity is not additive. The simultaneous introduction of oxygen and carbon can lead to an increase in the viscosity of the melt. The same is observed upon the combined introduction of chromium and nitrogen. The simultaneous introduction of other impurities - chromium with oxygen or carbon, nitrogen with oxygen - causes an intensification of their individual action. These observed patterns are attributed to changes in the interparticle interaction energies in the melt and, consequently, to rearrangements of its short-range-order structure.
