Abstract:
An approach to the synthesis of 2-(4-oxo-3-arylthiazolidine-2,5-diylidene)-N-arylethanethioamide derivatives from N,N′-diarylmalonodithioamides includes two steps: preparation of thiazoles using the Hantzsch reaction with subsequent modification of the active methylene group by the Knoevenagel condensation or enamination using dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (DMF-DMA). Configuration and isomerization of the double bonds in 4-oxothiazolidine-2,5-diylidenes were confirmed by 1H NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis and discussed. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
