Abstract:

An overview is presented of the development in crystalline infrared fibers and is made for the practical use of the last results in applications of the cables based on these fibers. It is shown that polycrystalline fibers from KRS-13 and similar crystals of solid solutions of AgHal are the appropriate fiber for medical endoscopies, which can be used for CO- and CO2-laser power delivery, IR-remote sensing and IR-imaging. Rectangular hollow waveguides are convenient for external operations at high level of average pewer (more than 50 W) delivered from lasers with polarized radiation. But design of optical connectors and coupling units needs is in need of further development.
