Abstract:
A new design is proposed for a heat exchanger used in water-circulation systems to cool metallurgical equipment and the design and operating parameters of the heat exchanger are determined. The exchanger's main parameter – unit thermal resistance – is evaluated for normal operating conditions and the dynamics of its change is examined. Bio-deposits that form on the surface of the exchanger's internal tube are the reason for the sharp increases seen in its thermal resistance. It is found that the surface exhibits a self-cleaning effect, and measures are proposed to make the operation of the heat exchanger more efficient. © 2015 Springer Science+Business Media New York
