Abstract:

The possibility of using fixed-hearth chamber furnaces in the heat treatment of bulky coils was investigated. A method was developed by which coils were stacked horizontally and heated by a jet of combustion products with burners inclined at an angle of up to 18 degree to the hearth to compensate for deflection of the jet by lifting forces. A jet of fan air was fed above the burner to increase the rate of flow of the heat carrier through the coil stack. Results of industrial tests of the method are discussed. Feeding of the heat carrier into the coil cavity enables the temperature difference over the cross-section of the coil stack and the time of heating to be reduced.
