Abstract:
Computer simulation is used to study two-dimensional dendritic growth in a medium susceptible to phase separation. It is shown that in this highly nonequilibrium system, cyclic changes in the dendrite morphology may accompany a continuous change in the concentration of phase-stratifying impurity. A close analogy is noted between this phenomenon and the reentrant phase transitions in liquid crystals. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.
