Abstract:
On the basis of a proposed model for the interaction of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) with a gaseous environment in a free molecular regime along the length of the wave, a new boundary kinetic effect is predicted. This is similar to classical boundary effects such as thermal or diffusion sliding of a gas but caused by the propagation of the SAW. The functional dependence of the effect on the gas and SAW parameters is given. The sliding arises as a result of the non-symmetric angular limitation on the flow of scattered gas as a result of the deformation of the surface of the solid by the SAW.
