Abstract:
The process of movement of a three-component gas mixture in a system of two flasks joined by a capillary is described. The concentrations of the components in the flasks are obtained as functions of the mixing time. The phenomena of diffusion shut-off and reverse diffusion, as applicable to a two-flask apparatus, are considered and conditions are found for their existence. Analytical expressions are obtained for the separation effect observed in the motion of the gas components. The theoretical results agree well with the experimental data.
