Abstract:

Coal tar pitch is characterized by high service properties. Optimal combination of the coke-forming capability and low viscosity in melt provides advantages of this pitch as compared to other kinds of the binding materials for various carbon-containing compounds subjected to carbonization. Therefore, this pitch is the best kind of electrode binder. The electrode pitch is widely utilized in aluminium industry In connection with this, rheological and wetting properties of the pitch should also be taken into account during certification of the pitch. Content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and other factor should be considered. Properties, which are important, during certification have been presented.
