Abstract:

Utilization of coal tar pitch in process of coal carbonization has been considered. Preparation of the pitch for the process is performed. It has been shown that thermal oxidation is the best method of improvement in the coke-forming capability of the pitch. However, thermal oxidation was not previously used during production of electrode pitch. Within last years process of thermal oxidation was improved and technology for producing the high-temperature pitch was developed. Mechanism of interaction between oxygen and the pitch hydrocarbons was studied. Results of the studies shown that vapor-phase thermal oxidation occurred.
