Abstract:
The authors studied the effect of various acids on coal tar. The experiments were conducted with tars from MMK left bracket Magnitogorsk Integrated Iron and Steel Works right bracket and NTMK left bracket Nizhnii-Tagil Integrated Iron and Steel Works right bracket . The tar mixture with acid added was heated in a metal reactor (v equals 0. 5 L-SCRIPT ), centrifuged (separation factor R equals 1860 G) for 5 minutes, and after decantation of the liquid part of the tar the yield of solids was determined. The results of the experiments are presented and it can be seen that even strong acids of organic origin do not exert an effect on condensation processes in the tar under these conditions. In small quantities nitric and hydrochloric acids also do not cause formation of a precipitate in the tar at low temperatures. Only sulfuric and orthophosphoric acids proved suitable for this purpose. The compacted solids from the tar after centrifuging were obtained with addition of concentrated H//2SO//4 at over 10%.
