Abstract:
The domain structure of single-crystal Sm//0//. //5//5Tb//0//. //4//5FeO//3 plates is investigted at different temperatures (77-300 degree K). In the spin-flip region (210-300 degree K), a complicated realignment of the domain structure is observed, accompanied by the onset of four magnetic phases distributed along two easy-magnetization axes. They form effectively a second system of macrodomains. The width of the macrodomain is determined by the tangential component of the magnetization and by the dimension of the samples along the crystalographic axis a. It is observed that the temperature intervals in which the change of the orientation of the spontaneous magnetic moment takes place are not the same near the surface and in the interior of the volume. This may be due to different temperature dependences of the magnetic-anisotropy constants on the surface and inside the crystal.
