Abstract:
The structure and properties of steel shot in cast and heat-treated (quenching and tempering) states are investigated. Shot of three size groups (fine, medium, and course with a mean size of 0.5, 2.0, and 3.6 mm, respectively) is studied. Metallographic analysis and compressive strength tests with determination of the value of the breaking load are performed. The microhardness of the shot is measured. Forty to sixty specimens are tested for each treatment mode for obtaining a reliable data base. The results of the tests are used for plotting histograms. © 2006 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
