Abstract:
The X-ray and electronic absorption spectra of the U(III), IV, V and (VĪ) chloride complexes in the fused LiCl at 1023 K and in the frozen LiCl are studied. A coordination surrounding of uranium and lengths of bonds of U-Cl and U-O in the complex ions are determined from the spectral data. It is revealed that the complexes of UO2Cl42- are formed upon interaction of UO3 and UO2 with LiCl. These complexes are being retained in the frozen substance but the bond length can be lowered somewhat.
