Abstract:
Investigations of glass melt interaction with aluminized steel were carried out for the purpose of revealing mechanisms responsible for adherence of enamel coatings to substrates. It was found that glass melt interaction with metals resulted in formation of gaseous phase containing carbon oxide, oxygen and water vapour. Aluminium silicates were observed in liquid glass as solid phase inclusions. In some cases silicon precipitates occured at aluminium layer-steel interface after cooling. Iron-containing enamels should not be used for coating aluminized steel because of iron dendrites which arise on the surface and deteriorated appearance and quality of coatings.
