Abstract:
The possibility of using a fluidized bed of fine-grained corundum for isothermal and martensitic hardening of steels is considered. The cooling ability of the fluidized bed with particle size ranged of 120 to 200 μm is shown to occupy an intermediate position between that of quenching oil and compressed air. The quenching in a fluidized bed allows to avoid the warpage of long-sized parts of alternating cross-sections. Experimental data on residual stresses, retained austenite quantity and cooling curves are presented for steels types 60, 45Kh3, 35Kh2NM, 55Kh2N2M, 40KhNM heat treated in various quenching media.
