Abstract:
For an immersed surface in a bubbling fluidized bed, radiative heat transfer must be considered in two parts, depending on whether the heat transfer surface is (a) enveloped by a bubble or (b) in contact with particles. With regard to (a), when the surface is enveloped by a bubble the emitting particles are at bed temperature. With regard to (b), when a packet of particles is in contact with a cooled immersed surface, radiative transfer mainly depends on interaction between the surface and the first layer of particles in the packet. The effective fluidized bed emissivity at a submerged surface was obtained from a radiometer covered by a quartz window at a measured temperature which was regulated by a controlled air flow across the internal surface of the quartz window.
