Abstract:
1. The maximum carburizing capacity of an atmosphere consisting of endothermal gas with around 6% CH4 is reached at α0 = 0.26-0.27. 2. The extremal variation of the carburizing capacity of the atmosphere with increasing amounts of methane is due to the combined influence of PCOPH2/K2 and ξPCH4. 3. Carburizing in fluidized bed is accelerated by an increase of PCOPH2/K2 due to the additional enrichment of the gas in CO and H2 by dissociation of methane on the particles of the fluidized bed and the interaction of the precipitated carbon with CO2 and H2O. 4. The carburizing capacity and composition of the furnace atmosphere vary little along the height of the fluidized bed. © 1976 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
