Abstract:
The kinetics of the liquid layer growth in the process of contact melting of tin-thallium system was experimentally investigated in a non-stationary-diffusion mode. The contact pairs consisted of pure tin and samples, which composition varied from pure thallium to Sn0.41Tl0.59. The results imply the independence of the boundary composition of liquid from the composition of thallium-containing sample and the compliance of boundary composition of liquid with the diagram liquidus, which suggests the necessity of forming the substance with solidus composition on the other side of the interface. Various mechanisms of quasi-equilibrium state realization at phase boundaries were considered. Impossibility of forming the phase with solidus composition by diffusion from the liquid interlayer to the crystal at the competitive growth of the liquid phase was shown. The researchers have proposed the model, according to which the quasi-equilibrium condition on the liquid-crystal boundary is formed by the formation and decay of metastable (supersaturated) liquid solution.
