Abstract:
In the framework of the theory of second-order phase transitions the magnetic contribution to the bulk modulus of a ferromagnet in magnetic fields is studied as a function of temperature. This contribution is established to result from the influence of magnetostriction on the Landau thermodynamic coefficients. The calculation results and experimental data are compared for a case of the ferromagnetic gadolinium.
