Abstract:
N,N-di-(2-carboxyethyl)-3,4-xylidine (H2L) was synthesized for the first time. Its protolytic equilibria in aqueous solutions were studied. The following constants of acidic ionization were obtained: pK(0) = 2.83 +/- 0.06, pK(1) = 3.90 +/- 0.04, and pK(2) = 7.14 +/- 0.07 at mu = 0.1 M KCI and 20 degrees C. It was shown that this compound exists in the solution in the zwitterionic form. The formation of a 1 : 1 H2L-Cu(II) complex {[}logK(CUL) = 7.15 +/- 0.07, mu = 0.1 M KCI, 20 degrees C] was observed. The complexion of H2L with Ni(II) and Co(II) ions did not occur.
