Abstract:
Oxygen nonstoichiometry (delta) of copper-containing lanthanum cobaltite LaCo1-xCuxO3-delta (x = 0.3). was studied by high-temperature thermogravimetry in the temperature and oxygen pressure ranges 873-1273 K and 10(-3)-1 atm, respectively. Partial substitution of copper for cobalt was shown to result in the formation of acceptor defects Cu'(Co) (Cu2+)and the appearance of holes h. or Co.(Co) (Co4+) and to facilitate the formation of positive oxygen vacancies Vo (Vo(2+)). Oxygen exchange between the solid and gas phases was described by the reaction LaCo1-23+Cox4+ Cu-x(2+) O-3 = LaCo1-2x+2delta3+Cox-2delta4+Cux2+ O(3-delta)Vo(2+) + (delta/2)O-2. The partial molar enthalpies Delta(H) over bar degrees (O-2) and entropies Delta(S) over bar degrees (O-2) of oxygen release from the solid phase were calculated. The combinatorial and noncombinatorial contributions to the entropy were found.
