Abstract:
Phase diagrams of binary systems on the basis of epsilon-caprolactam and hexamethylene diamine salts of adipic and sebacic acids were studied. By means of copolycondensation of epsilon-caprolactam with the above salts, ternary copolymers of various compositions, including such low-melting systems as PA-66 and PA-610, were obtained. A phase diagram relating melting temperatures of the copolymers to their composition was constructed. Melting temperatures of ternary copolymers were calculated. The calculation scheme was based on the assumption that a ternary copolymer can be replaced by a quasi-binary one. The Flory equation for binary random copolymers was used. It was shown that this approach can be used to predict melting temperatures of ternary copolymers of various compositions.
