Abstract:
New concepts of the nature of hardening of metals on the yield plateau are developed on the basis of an analysis of known experimental data and existing models. The main feature of metal strain on the yielding plateau is discussed, which leads to a lower strength of the volumes through which Chernov-Luders bands pass as compared to the strength of the initial unstrained volumes where defects are anchored by impurity atoms.
