Abstract:
The paper contains a survey of experimental and theoretical investigations of the problems actual for domain engineering: formation of domain structure in real ferroelectrics during phase transitions and domain kinetics under the action of external electric field. It was shown by using in situ local and integral methods that initial domain pattern spontaneously formed after phase transition is essentially of kinetic origin. We discuss the dependence of the reconstruction of as-grown domain structure on the cooling rate and screening time constant. On the basis of numerous experimental data we demonstrate that the instantaneous domain patterns are defined by the spatial distribution of local fields produced by different types of charges.
