Abstract:
Phase relations in the ammonium heptamolybdate-poly(vinyl alcohol)-water system are studied at 20-100degreesC. The solubility of the salt component in water is considered. A fragment of a polythermal section through a composition-temperature diagram of the system is modeled. Experimental verification is carried out to show that ammonium heptamolybdate has a salting-out effect strong enough to induce liquid-liquid phase separation in the polymer-containing solutions. The position of the concentration boundary for the expression of mesomorphism signs at various temperatures is studied. Scanning probe microscopy is shown to be useful for studying polymer-salt films. In the films containing ammonium heptamolybdate or ammonium metavanadate, regions with different mechanical properties are found; these regions correspond to the amorphous and crystalline states of the polymer-salt complexes.
