Abstract:
An isothermal (23 +/- 2degreesC) section of the lanthanum nitrate-poly(vinyl alcohol)-water phase diagram has been studied. Two homogeneous fields have been discovered: one of an aqueous solution of the poly mer and salt and the other of a polymer-based solution. Two- and three-phase fields for these solutions and for their coexistence with salt crystals exist. The polymer solubility in aqueous salt solutions increases slowly due to complex formation as the salt concentration increases. Lanthanum nitrate slightly increases its solubility in the presence of the polymer.
