Abstract:
Phase relations in the ammonium paratungstate-polyvinyl alcohol-water are studied. The room-temperature isothermal section of the phase diagram has been obtained. Visual and microscopic observations as well as instrumental methods have been employed to determine the boundaries of existence of homogeneous polymer-salt solutions. Densities of the solutions, their dynamic viscosities, and refraction indices have been studied. The existence region of polymer-based solutions, the crystallization region of the salt, and heterogeneous fields containing two or three phases have been outlined. In contrast to the ammonium heptamolybdate-polyvinyl alcohol-water system, in the studied system the solubility of the components did not increase after exposure to daylight or ultraviolet irradiation. The system shows properties suggesting the formation of a mesomorphic phase whose formation does not necessitate d-metal ion reduction.
