Abstract:
Complex formation in aqueous and nonaquous solutions of poly-1-vinylazols has been studied by the calorimetric method. Mixing of poly-1-vinylazols with strong donor or strong acceptor solvents is shown to be accompanied with essential exothermal effects due to the formation of electronodonor-acceptor bonds in solution. When dissolving in acceptor solvents including water polymers act as donors of electrons because of the undivided electron pairs of nitrogen atoms of heterocyclic substituents, while in donor solvents their electron-acceptor properties are manifested because of the aromatic rings. The significant role of selfassociation of poly-1-vinylazols related with the presence both of donor and acceptor properties of polymers is shown for the dissolution process.
