Abstract:
Phase transformations observed in Ti-Nb-H and Ti-V-H alloys upon quenching and subsequent heating were analyzed. Conditions of precipitation of the athermal omega phase with the ``raft{''}-like morphology were discussed. Data on the formation of intermediate (Ti,Nb)H-x and (Ti,V)H-x (x < 2) hydrides with a body-centered tetragonal lattice were summarized. It was hypothesized that hydrogen atoms occupy predominantly tetrahedral interstices in the bet structure of these bet hydrides. The metastable Ti-Nb-H and Ti-V-H phase diagrams constructed were critically analyzed; the role of hydrogen in the phase transformations was shown. The effect of hydrogen on the structural and phase transformations occurring upon cold deformation and subsequent aging was studied and the evidence for the use of hydrogen as the alloying component in Ti-Nb superconducting compositions is given.
